How We Met
We met in college as Resident Assistants at the Savannah College of Art and Design. We were friends for a couple months before he wised up to the fact that I liked him and we finally went on a date!
The Proposal
We were at Disney World celebrating our anniversary and he proposed on the Haunted Mansion—our favorite ride. He knew I wouldn’t want a public proposal so he picked a pitch black ride where no one could possibly see us!
The Dress
I sew my own clothes, so it was a natural decision to make my wedding dress. I wanted a simple silhouette with stunning fabric, so I went with a silk wrap dress with a 3D floral lace overlay. My husband wanted an ensemble with a little color and personality, so along with his navy suit, he chose a patterned shirt and socks.
Our Wes Anderson Movie Wedding Theme
We wanted a small, intimate wedding with plenty of our personalities woven in. As people in the art & design field, we wanted there to be handmade touches without driving ourselves crazy trying to DIY everything. Since Wes Anderson movies were a big part of why we initially bonded and our first date was to one of his films, we Incorporated that as a theme for our decor. Each table was themed after a different movie, and we found and made various objects to represent them. Firehouse Chicago was the ideal size for our small group, and was the perfect mix of quirky and elegant. We mostly wanted it to feel 100% us in every way, and I think we accomplished that.
