Cozy Fall Chicago Wedding at The Joinery

Lizzie and Lucas tied the knot on a lovely September day at The Joinery. The cozy Logan Square venue was perfect for their casual, laid-back celebration! The couple’s appreciation for delicious food and drink was apparent with an exclusive craft cocktail and a family-style meal. Every sweet moment was beautifully captured by Emma Mullins Photography.

Our Proposal Story

We had been talking about getting married for a while and had looked at rings together. I came home from work and our apartment was full of flowers. Lucas was at the door and I think I immediately started crying. He started to go down on one knee and I pulled him back up. I don’t remember what he said but somehow I got out a “Yes.” We met my parents for champagne after!

Favorite Memories

Our favorite memory is the few minutes we had after the ceremony signing the wedding certificate and just taking a breath together. Weddings are special because they’re such communal events, but they’re also about you as a couple, and having a moment to be alone was so special. I think for us, the ceremony took a back seat during planning and this time also gave us a minute to reflect on what we were actually doing that day together.

Our Wedding Vision

Our guiding goal was to make our wedding a fun, low key party and with that, to keep the planning as low-stress as possible. We wanted our day to reflect us as much as possible, so incorporating our personality where we could in planning – serving pie from our favorite bakery in Chicago, playing music from bands we had seen in concert together during dinner.

Another detail I loved was our guestbook, a print of the skylines of Chicago and Milwaukee mirroring each other that we had guests sign. I wasn’t sure about the guestbook, but we just got it framed and it’s such a lovely and tangible piece of the day.
