Lindsay and Brett’s classic black and white wedding at Spiaggia is pure Chicago sophistication. The couple chose to include elements of their relationship throughout the day, from the tables named after their favorite Chicago restaurants to the band: the same that played at the bar the night they met! Each moment is beautifully captured by Alaina Bos Photography.
How We Met
We met organically at a bar in River North in the summer of 2011. Brett was out with coworkers, while I was celebrating a girlfriend’s birthday. Moments after meeting, my friends and I left and crossed the street to a second bar. Brett happened to walk in shortly after, claiming it was happenstance. During our wedding reception, he admitted to following us to that second bar.
The Proposal
Early on in our relationship, we purchased a Groupon for a Segway tour of downtown. We never got around to using it and ultimately let it expire, but always intended to give it another shot one day. In June, Brett surprised me with our long overdue tour. He feigned confusing the time and when we arrived, we were told we missed the group. One of the employees kindly offered to take us out on our own. I had no idea they had orchestrated this. We stopped at a variety of locations for pictures. When we reached the Rose Garden just south of Buckingham Fountain, the tour guide pulled out a camera and began snapping away. When I turned to Brett, he was on one knee. The rest was a complete blur!
We quickly rushed home to freshen up before dinner. When we walked into Carnivale, I was blown away to see our parents and siblings awaiting our arrival. Brett’s family had come in from the suburbs and mine from Michigan. Following dinner, we headed to Hubbard Inn where our friends were gathered for drinks.
Despite all of the festivities of that weekend, I was most touched to learn about Brett’s planning. As it turns out, he had driven to Grand Rapids, Michigan one afternoon to take my parents to dinner and ask for their blessing to propose. He drove all the way back to Chicago that very same night. It meant the world to my parents and even more to me.
Favorite Memories
I have the most incredible memories from that day. There is no way to articulate how it feels to have everyone you and your partner love in one room. We remember feeling overwhelmed with gratitude.
My favorite memory is one which I did not fully appreciate until later. Shortly after our wedding, we lost my dad. I am incredibly grateful that he was able to walk me down the aisle. We danced to BB King’s Stand By Me and that’s a memory that I’ll hold with me for the rest of my life.

Wedding Planning Advice
Oh gosh… enjoy it! More specifically, step aside at some point during the night and look around the room together. Notice your friends and family eating, drinking, and dancing with one another. Recognize that they are all there for you. We have often stopped to recall our wedding night and the love and support we felt from all of our favorite people.
