Amelia and Shane are college sweethearts who love nature and love the city, so Logan Square’s Greenhouse Loft was the perfect choice for their colorful boho Chicago wedding. They “tied the knot” with a traditional Celtic handfasting, and their personal and intimate ceremony was written by Anita Vaughan. How We Met
We met back in 2009 at Elmhurst College in a Political Science Class. I was a transfer student and was trying to find the least awkward way to meet new people. I noticed Shane right away. He always wore different band shirts every day, so my plan was to go up to him and strike up a conversation about whatever band he was wearing that day (no matter how terrible they might be). However the next time I saw him, he was just wearing a plain black shirt! To avoid complimenting him for a plain black shirt, I decided my plan had to be aborted ASAP and that I would try another day. Disappointed, I started to leave class when Shane came up to me, introduced himself and asked how I did on the last test. I was surprised but elated and we ended up skipping our next classes and talking the whole morning. Turns out, he was trying to think of ways to start talking to me too. We became friends instantly and started dating soon after that!
Our Proposal Story
We love traveling and exploring new places together! For our 7th anniversary, we decided to hop on a plane and go off to New York. We had the most amazing time sightseeing, traveling the boroughs, and hitting up the most amazing restaurants and bars. On the morning of our actual anniversary, Shane woke up early and surprised me with coffee, a donut, and the most beautiful ring. I had all of my favorite things with my favorite person and it was one of the happiest days of my life!
Our Wedding Vision
I’ve never had visions of a big traditional wedding and was never sure of what kind of wedding would really suit us so when we had to start planning it was pretty overwhelming. We both love nature and both love the city so we found a venue that seemingly brought the two together! Greenhouse Loft was the first venue we visited and we knew it was perfect. We wanted our wedding to be full of color, and to have a laid back summer vibe. I loved how everything turned out in the end.
